About Kirsty Relton

Mission

I provide support and guidance to SENCo's and Headteachers in relation to SEND and the EHCP process across Hampshire and the surrounding areas. In a changing system, conflict is often encountered, my goal is to support and encourage collaborative working between Schools, LA's and parents to ensure that the child remains central to everyones aims.

Services

I offer a range of services to schools and parents in relation to SEND support and the EHCP process. This can be tailored to support SENCo's new to the role trying to navigate the system or to those that have been SENCo's for some time but require a fresh perspective to make some changes. How this is offered is bespoke to the individual setting.

Additionally, I am able to offer advice and guidance to parents that are currently looking at options for this child whether this is early exploration of EHCP's or further down the pathway.

Experience

I have worked for Local Authorities for 10 years in a range of SEND roles, both Operational and Strategic. As a senior leader I worked closely with schools, professionals and parents to improve services for Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

My passion stems from my time growing up with a sister with Special Educational Needs and seeing the impact this has had on her journey into adulthood. This lived experience influenced my interest in education and throughout my work I am motivated to get better outcomes for children and young people than those that were available to my sister.

This interest led me to study for a BA (Hons) degree in Education Studies, where a large portion of my studies focused on Special Educational Needs. As well as looking at a wide variety of Special Educational Needs in detail, I also gained a solid understanding of the legislation that led to the 2014 Children and Families Act. Multi-disciplinary working and aspirations are weaved through my work, with a goal to improving the outcomes for Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs as they move towards adulthood.

Using my vast experience in Local Authority leadership and my passion for working together I am able to offer a range of services that are flexible to meet the needs of the client.
