Independent Advice and Support for Schools in relation to SEND and EHCP's
I have worked for Local Authorities for 10 years in a range of SEND roles, both Operational and Strategic. As a senior leader I worked closely with schools, professionals and parents to improve services for Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
My passion stems from my time growing up with a sister with Special Educational Needs and seeing the impact this has had on her journey into adulthood. This lived experience influenced my interest in education and throughout my work I am motivated to get better outcomes for children and young people than those that were available to my sister.
This interest led me to study for a BA (Hons) degree in Education Studies, where a large portion of my studies focused on Special Educational Needs. As well as looking at a wide variety of Special Educational Needs in detail, I also gained a solid understanding of the legislation that led to the 2014 Children and Families Act. Multi-disciplinary working and aspirations are weaved through my work, with a goal to improving the outcomes for Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs as they move towards adulthood.
My move into consultancy aims to use my developed skills, knowledge and passion to support school professionals, Local Authorities and parents to work together, removing the conflict and barriers to get better outcomes for Children and Young People.
"Kirsty has been a valued partner to our setting for several years, consistently providing a listening ear and thoughtful feedback on our ideas and concerns. Her extensive strategic knowledge of SEND policy and procedures has been invaluable, especially during times of financial and other challenges. Kirsty's forward-thinking approach has helped us navigate these pressures effectively. She thrives on challenges, and we've certainly faced many together over the years. Her dedication and insight have made a significant difference to our work."
Special School Headteacher
"It has been an honour and please to work alongside Kirsty, I’ve consistently been impressed by her dedication and professionalism. Kirsty demonstrates a deep understanding of the diverse needs of all our young people and approaches each individual with patience, empathy, and respect.
Her ability to create tailored support plans that meet the unique needs of each young person has been invaluable in ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to succeed. Kirsty is not only thorough in assessing and supporting young people, but she also collaborates seamlessly with colleagues from across different agencies, offering insight and guidance when needed.
One of the most notable qualities is her commitment to continuous learning about the different needs and deepening her knowledge and understanding. Kirsty is always looking for innovative strategies and resources to better support our young people and she is quick to implement effective solutions."
Mainstream School Inclusion Lead
"I have had the pleasure of working with Kirsty for almost 3 years. Since the beginning I have been incredibly impressed by her vast knowledge of, and around, the world of Special Educational Needs; but as I have worked with her, I have realised that she is far more than just a bank of information. Kirsty is driven by an overwhelming passion to ensure the most beneficial, collaborative and child centred outcomes are fought for at every possible opportunity. Both of these qualities are blended with an innate ability to assess a wide range of situations and series of events to ascertain the root of any problem and devise strategies to improve them. Kirsty is then able to feed this all back in a highly professional manner that, whilst done in a way that is sensitive to those that she is addressing, allows for resolution of the problem with clear, defined steps. Once again, always with the best interests of the children and young people at the very heart of what she does."
